Welcome to Williamsburg's hotels guide
Williamsburg Virginia allows guests to fully immerse
themselves in the Colonial era - if they desire. A large number of
hotels and inns are historic buildings that boast period furnishings
and the ambiance of the 18th century without foregoing the amenities of
modern life. Those wishing to stay firmly planted in the present on the beatin path will
find plenty of chain accommodations to suit their taste. Most Williamsburg properties are just minutes
from area attractions such as Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens.
Visiting Williamsburg
John D. Rockefeller proclaimed that Williamsburg was a place where "the
future might learn from the past." Colonial Williamsburg, the Virginia
colony's capital from 1699 to 1780, displays how 18th-century colonists
lived. A stroll along the town's cobblestone streets uncovers more than
500 restored or reconstructed Colonial-era buildings, horse-drawn carriages
carrying costumed townspeople to and fro, and craftspeople demonstrating
their trades. Historical interpreters, arrayed in period costumes, explain
how the seeds of the American Revolution were sown in this town. Thousands
of people visit Williamsburg to learn about the past, but the city consists
of more than a history lesson sprung to life. It is also thoroughly modern
with businesses, homes, and shops. Other attractions in and around Williamsburg
include gardens, amusement parks, and museums. Today's Williamsburg is
what Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin envisioned when he approached Rockefeller in 1926
about restoring the city to its Colonial splendor - a piece of the past
spliced into an ever-thriving present.
